Meet Dr. Greg Essick

Dr. Greg Essick

Before moving to Blowing Rock, Dr. Greg Essick was Professor of Comprehensive Oral Health at the UNC Adams School of Dentistry where he founded and oversaw the Dental Sleep Clinic. The Clinic provided the school’s venue for patient care, education and research in the use of oral appliances for treatment of sleep-disordered breathing. Since 2008 Dr. Essick provided much of the school’s sleep education to dental and dental hygiene students, and to dental specialty residents. In addition, he co-founded and co-directed a dental sleep training program for dentists in private practice. Dr. Essick served as chair of the American Academy of Dental Sleep Medicine Research Committee and of the Academic Dental Sleep Medicine Council, and worked to develop position statements for an effective oral appliance and its adjustment. He co-chaired a task force of the North Carolina Dental Society to develop a policy for the practice of dental sleep medicine in NC. Currently, Dr. Essick lectures and serves as associate editor of the Journal of Dental Sleep Medicine. He has authored over 120 journal articles and book chapters. He is a diplomate of the American Board of Dental Sleep Medicine. Dr. Essick joined High Country Dentistry in April, 2021 and looks forward to helping people in the High Country manage their obstructive sleep apnea and snoring.
